[Sophie] Sandcastles and Confessions
May. 21st, 2012 08:07 amWalking in the balmy air was enough to - if not actually sober them up - cut through the haze of alcohol, and by the time they got to the beach and sank down in the sand, Zoe's mind was still on everything she'd left behind on the Deck before they'd left this morning. David's request about Athena was most of it, of course - something she'd considered telling Sandy earlier tonight, but Sandy had been through so much lately - but there was also Victor's goddamn secrecy and his thirty-fifth birthday back in March, and she'd been named the emissary to Arcana.
In a way she'd expected that. And she wouldn't have minded if she'd run into Christophe and Gustave last time, but it'd been Burke, and she knew Burke would still be the one who interested the Royals the most. So she was just going to have to suck it up and try to speak to him again.
That, of course, she thought as she got down on her knees and dug her hands into the damp sand, depended upon whether she survived confessing to David that she'd kept Athena alive - just financially, of course - after she'd abandoned the Suit.
